NEW YORK (November 11, 2024) – Today the Other Israel Film Festival announced its lineup for its 18th annual festival, to take place at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan Dec 5-10, 2024 in New York. The festival presents U.S. premieres of new Israeli feature-length films, short films, and a TV series.

After pausing its 2023 festival, which was scheduled to run three weeks after the Oct. 7 attacks, the 2024 Other Israel Film Festival returns to a changed landscape. This year’s festival proudly continues its tradition of encouraging nuance and dialogue by providing a platform for important conversations on this tumultuous region. For the 2024 edition, when peace between Israel and its neighbors might seem like an impossible dream, Other Israel highlights the stories of those who stand together for co-existence, an end to violence, and hope for peace in Israel and the region.

The 18th Annual Other Israel Film Festival boasts international and New York premieres, with films from the UK, Israel, Palestine, and the US. The festival will kick off with the New York Premiere of The Other by Joy Sela, a film that explores the complex relationship between Palestinians and Israelis. Closing night will be the NY Premiere of celebrated Director Michael Winterbottom’s historical drama: Shoshana. Other highlights include a new piece by Academy Award winner Julie Cohen: The Path Forward, a film focusing on Arab, Palestinian, and Jewish groups who stand together through this conflict.

The festival will also include the U.S. premiere of the hit TV series, a product of Israel’s blossoming industry. Madrasa is a comedy by Sayed Kashua, directed by Guri Alfi, about a bilingual Arab/Israeli school and the cringey interactions between parents.

In addition to the film screenings, two panel discussions will feature esteemed activist guests visiting from Israel. These discussions will highlight the work of Israeli and Palestinian activists working on the ground: Alon-Lee Green and Rula Daood from the well-known Standing Together movement will join us to discuss the current state of joint activism in Israel. The Abraham Initiatives’ Co-Executive Directors Amnin Be’eri Sulitzeanu and Shahira Shalaby will discuss the status and experiences of Israel’s Arab minority, including Palestinian-identifying citizens of Israel, since October 7.

“In such a conflicted time, this is the moment for our community here in New York to amplify the work of Israeli and Palestinian peacemakers,” shares Carole Zabar, Founder of the Other Israel Film Festival.

“Film brings much-needed nuance to the conversation,” says Isaac Zablocki, Executive Director of the Other Israel Film Festival, and Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan Senior Director of Film Programs. “I’m inspired by this year’s lineup of films sharing the voices of those who believe Arabs and Jews can live together and find understanding.”

With the support of valuable partner organizations across the globe, the festival aims to engage the community, deepen its views, challenge its perspectives, and drive it to action.

The festival features in-person premieres and filmmaker Q+As at the Marlene Meyerson JCC Manhattan on the Upper West Side. Tickets go on sale November 12, 2024, at otherisrael.org.

Festival Passes are $60 and include access to films and conversations. Access to individual screenings is $18 per film. Conversations and guest speakers will be announced soon. To watch the festival trailer, learn more about the films, and purchase tickets and passes, visit otherisrael.org.
