The “Other” in Israeli Cinema Panel

Join us for a panel discussion of leading experts from the Israeli film industry to learn more about the representation of minorities in Israeli movies. Filmmakers and representatives from The New Foundation for Israeli Cinema will discuss the history and challenges in elevating the voices of all members of Israeli society.

Join us for a night out and a screening followed by conversations in the vibrant scene of West Harlem. We’ll start the night with drinks at Silvana cafe-bar-music, then move to JCC Harlem for a screening of In Her Footsteps at 8 pm, followed by conversations.

6:30 pm for drinks @ Silvana’s (300 W 116th St)
8 pm for screening @ JCC Harlem (318 W 118th St)

Tickets are $15 at the door. Admission includes 1 drink with ticket.

In this comedy, a well-intentioned Arab handyman upends daily life in an Israeli village. After a woman is assaulted and the community quickly turns accusatory, his Israeli employer is the only local who believes him. Loyalties are tested as more secrets are uncovered.

Join a conversation with leading experts on the impact of the recent Nation-State Law on Israeli and American Jewry. Can Israel be a state that is both Jewish and democratic? How does this law change this balance? And what is the part of American jewry in this equation? Join an interactive conversation as we try to answer these questions.

An award-winning filmmaker enters Tekoa, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, to talk with the locals. Their honest, surprising, and sometimes funny conversations offer a new take on Israeli reality on both sides of the Green Line.

Screening followed by Q+A with director, moderated by Yona Shem-Tov of Encounter, and after party at Gazala’s.

Art Exhibit: Protest in Pictures: Standing Together Against the Nation-State Law

Thousands of Israelis took to the streets this summer to rally against the proposed Nation-State Law with signs demanding equality. Many of the New Israel Fund’s grantees rallied their fellow citizens to actualize a different vision for Israel, one that stands for equality for all citizens, regardless of race, religion, and background.
